The Chester Step Test is a submaximal, multistage, aerobic capacity test. Originally developed by Professor Sykes for use in workplace medico-fitness screening. It is one of the current tests recommended by the UK Home Office for Firefighter recruitment, training, and measuring fitness levels annually. It is similar but more robust in its stepping concept to the shorter in length Harvard Step Test.
Designed for use with a variety of step heights (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30cm).
Now used worldwide across occupational, community and clinical settings since it can accommodate a broad range of ages, abilities and shows no gender-bias.
